Most Lead Funnels Are Overbuilt and Underperforming.
Too many steps. Too many tools. Too little clarity.
You don’t need a 12-step funnel to convert leads especially if you’re a SaaS founder, coach, consultant, or agency running lean.
You need:
- One clear offer
- One fast path to action
- Three tools that talk to each other
In this post, I’ll show you exactly how I built a lean, high-converting lead funnel using just 3 tools no developers, no Zapier, no fluff.
The Goal: Get Qualified Leads to Book a Call (Or Join a List)
Your funnel doesn’t exist to look good in a dashboard. It exists to:
- Pre-qualify traffic
- Warm leads with context
- Make one CTA feel like the obvious next step
Here’s what I set up:
- Tool 1: A form that filters and segments
- Tool 2: A calendar to book the call
- Tool 3: An email tool that keeps the lead warm

Tool 1: Tally For Pre-Qualification and Lead Capture
Tally is simple, clean, and powerful.
How I used it:
- Created a short intake form: name, email, business type, current problem
- Used conditional logic to segment leads (e.g., different paths for SaaS vs. service businesses)
- Embedded it directly on my landing page
- Auto-redirected to the calendar once submitted
Why it worked:
- Felt frictionless for users
- Gave me context before the call
- Filtered out bad fits without sounding harsh

Tool 2: SavvyCal To Book the Right Type of Call
Not every lead should get the same booking link.
SavvyCal lets you create multiple links, each tied to different time lengths, availability, and pre-call notes.
How I used it:
- Created two calendar links: one for SaaS leads, one for service providers
- Auto-assigned prep notes based on form answers
- Limited availability to reduce back-and-forth
- Sent confirmation emails with links to my Notion prep page
Why it worked:
- Qualified leads booked themselves
- I showed up to every call with context
- No need for a VA to manage the flow

Tool 3:

For Automated Follow-Up
Once the form is submitted, even if the lead doesn’t book, ConvertKit takes over.
How I used it:
- Created a 4-email sequence:
1. “Here’s what to expect if we work together”
2. A walkthrough of how I solved the same problem
3. A client story
4. One last nudge to book a call
- Triggered this only for people who submitted the form but didn’t book
- If someone booked → tagged as “Booked Call” and removed from sequence
Why it worked:
- Warmed leads without chasing
- Converted hesitant prospects later
- Showed social proof and clarity before we ever spoke

Optional Add-ons (But I Didn’t Use Them)
You could add:
- Web analytics (GA4, PostHog)
- Retargeting ads
- CRM integration
But for me, the point was to launch fast and iterate later.
If you’re early-stage or building solo, launch before you optimize.
Funnel Flow Summary

Step-by-step:
Lead hits page with embedded Tally form
Fills form, gets filtered based on answers
Redirected to correct SavvyCal link
Books call or exits
If booked → added to “Booked” tag
If not booked → starts ConvertKit warm-up sequence
Every email includes CTA to book again
If they return and book, ConvertKit pauses emails

What Made This Funnel Actually Convert
Here’s why it worked better than the “normal” funnel:
No confusing pages everything lives in 1 form + 1 calendar
No tech fatigue no Zapier errors, no webhook failures
No cold leads follow-up handled automatically
No missed context every lead was pre-filtered and prepared
No wasted calls only qualified leads got the link
Results After 3 Weeks (Small Sample, High Conversion)

- 7 booked after ConvertKit follow-up
- Only 2 no-shows

Want to Copy This Setup?
Start with:
- Build a Tally form with 3–5 smart questions
- Create 2–3 SavvyCal links tied to lead types
- Set up a ConvertKit sequence triggered by “form filled but didn’t book”
Test it live. Tweak it weekly. Keep what converts, cut what doesn’t.
Conclusion: You Don’t Need More Steps. You Need a Funnel That Works Without You.
Most lead funnels overcomplicate the journey. This one trims it to the essentials:
- Ask the right questions
- Let qualified people book
- Nurture the rest automatically
You don’t need a tech team. You need 3 tools and a clear flow.
